What Hospitality can learn from TOPGEAR closing its doors.
This week the television monolith Top Gear announced it would be “Rested for the foreseeable future”, months after the irreverent Freddie Flintoff officially stood down from presenting following a crash whilst filming.
What has this got to do with hospitality?
Well in a word, everything.
This is a perfect example of an organisation relying on charismatic leadership to support its momentum and its success.
More often than not, when good leaders leave our companies they take their best assets, their best systems and your best clients with them.
And after 44 years in business, 235 episodes and more than a few scandals, Top Gear teaches us once and for all, that you’re never too big to fail.
Can you think of any other industry where the most crucial element of its employee value is so cloudy?
